Karina Santellano, Ph.D.
Hello! I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics at Arizona State University.
My research interests are the sociology of race and ethnicity, immigration, class, work/occupations/entrepreneurship, and urban sociology. My current book project examines Latinx millennial entrepreneurship pathways, experiences, and meaning-making, particularly via the site of Latinx-owned and themed coffee shops in Southern California. My research and writing appear in academic journals Ethnic and Racial Studies, Sociology of Race & Ethnicity, Sociological Perspectives, and in public outlets. To see my published work, hit the Research button above.
In addition to research, I am passionate about transforming institutional cultures to prioritize the health and well-being of students and faculty of color. As a scholar-activist, I have served in various leadership roles in this area since I was a college student myself.
I earned my Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Southern California and my B.A. from Duke University.
